Why Wendles?

Wendle's Bistro. Our intimate dining room at Score Valley Country House, just on the outskirts of Ilfracombe where we believe food should feel like home — and nothing says "home" quite like Wendle's.

Named in honour of our Director, Diana Coad, Wendle's Bistro is more than just our on-site eatery — it's a heartfelt tribute to the woman whose vision, strength and spirit helped shape this place. From model to politician to trailblazing timber broker in a man's world, Di has always broken the mould. It was in the timber trade that she earned her nickname "Wendle" — and later, she and her late-husband Bernie ran their own successful restaurant of the same name.

We couldn't imagine launching our food offering without honouring the powerhouse behind it all.

At Wendle's Bistro, we serve locally sourced, home-cooked, and wherever possible, organic meals — all plated with care and priced to stay accessible. From hearty breakfasts and cream teas to yummy brunches, evening meals and our much-loved Roast on the Coast, we've created a menu that's honest, nourishing and full of flavour.
